CEREC

CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) is a dental technology that allows dentists to create and place dental restorations, such as crowns, inlays, onlays, and veneers, in a single appointment. With CEREC, a dentist uses a specialized CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) system to design and manufacture the restoration in the dental office, without the need for sending impressions to an off-site laboratory.

The CEREC process begins with the dentist using a specialized camera to take a 3D image of the affected tooth or teeth. This image is used to create a virtual model of the tooth, which is then used by the dentist to design the restoration using the CAD software. Once the design is complete, the dentist uses the CAM software to send the design to a milling machine located in the dental office. The milling machine creates the restoration out of a block of ceramic material while the patient waits.

Once the restoration is complete, the dentist checks its fit and appearance before bonding it to the patient's tooth. Because the restoration is created in-house, CEREC eliminates the need for temporary restorations, which are often required when dental restorations are created off-site. This means that the patient can leave the dental office with a fully restored tooth in just one visit.

CEREC technology has revolutionized the way dental restorations are made and placed, making the process faster, more convenient, and more comfortable for patients. It also allows for more precise and accurate restorations, resulting in better outcomes and greater patient satisfaction.
